We recently launched our Startup Support Programme and caught up with Martin from Across Borders Consulting.

Across Borders Consulting was our first member company to take part in our recently launched Startup Support Programme. Across Borders Consulting was set up during the pandemic and provides customs & international trade advice to businesses. This is particularly important post Brexit with businesses discovering many new trade challenges. We asked Martin how he was getting on in The View.

"Across Borders Consulting provides advice and training in the area of customs and international trade for a wide range of companies in Ireland, the UK and beyond , of all sizes who import and export goods. Since Brexit, we advise in particular on how to plan for and deal with the new customs rules that exist when trading goods between the EU and UK following the UK departure from the EU Customs Union. We are able to draw on the experience of our people whom are drawn from roles as Customs Officers, Customs Managers/Directors in professional services firms (EY and PwC) and Industry roles to support you to trade goods efficiently, compliantly and cost effectively."

Hybrid Working - Is hybrid the new Working Week?

The office environment has changed dramatically in the last eighteen months and some companies are now finding it quite a task to coax their employees back into the workplace as the restrictions ease this Autumn.

Some larger corporations have chosen to adopt a hybrid 3:2 working model, three days in the office and two at home or to allow those who are not keen on returning to the office to work off a 2:3 model; two days in the office with three days at home.

General feedback amongst staff shows that workers miss collaborating with their team and holding their face-to-face meetings. To accommodate this, there's another hybrid option, in which employees are only required to come into the office once a week on the same day as their team. The rest of the time, unless there is a meeting that requires in person, they’ll have the flexibility to work from home. Getting the balance right and keeping a team happy under the circumstances is key for most employers.
