Where to get your Daily Dose of Fresh Air

At The View, we know how your environment can shape how you work and that sometimes productivity goes beyond your desk. As we touched on in our Employer’s guide for 'Supporting your team during the winter months', it is important to set aside time to get some natural daylight and fresh air.

Whether you are working from a dedicated office space in Malahide or joining us at The View for the day, for some, stepping away from the screen for short intervals can improve focus. If you have ten minutes between meetings or an hour in the afternoon, Malahide and its surroundings offer some of the most refreshing coastal and castle walks in North Dublin.

Your Power Walk

If you’re looking for a quick reset and to increase your step count, these routes are perfect for an afternoon stride:

  • The Malahide Castle Loop: Just a stone's throw from the village, the castle grounds offer a stunning, semi-sheltered 5km loop. It is the perfect distance to get the heart rate up and return to your desk feeling revitalised in just under an hour.

  • The Coastal Stretch: Walk from The View toward Malahide Beach and back. It takes approximately 17 minutes each way, ideal for a 35-minute break that offers that bracing sea air to wake up the senses.

A Complete Reset

For those days when you need to completely unplug or you have that extra time to walk at your leisure, these are local trails that offer a bit more distance.

  • The Castle-to-Portmarnock Trail: A fantastic 10km route that takes you from the historic grounds of Malahide Castle all the way to Portmarnock. Walk the route (approx. 3 hours) and take the DART back to Malahide Village. It is about a 1km walk from the station back to the Castle car park.

  • Portmarnock Velvet Strand: If you have a car or want to hop on the bus (under 30 minutes from the village), the Velvet Strand offers everything from a 20-minute stroll to an hour-long walk along one of Ireland’s most beautiful beaches. Learn more about Portmarnock’s Velvet Strand here.

A Quick Dose of Fresh Air

Sometimes you don’t need a hike but a quick change of scenery. These spots are perfect for a quick loop or scenic coffee break before heading back to the desk:

Estuary Meander, Bissets Strand: If you walk just past the bridge, you get a completely different view of the water. It is a quieter walk along the main estuary and has plenty of benches for a restful pause: https://share.google/8IyrQCwETUIum5x8I

The Village Green: This is a perfect, close by spot for The View members. In the heart of Malahide, you can stroll up to the ‘Old Pier’ to get the best view of the water and boats. It is ideal for a quick outdoor phone call or a seated breath of air, often with buskers and entertainment.

Getting Your Steps In
